Courtney gives back to her Community!

Courtney has a strong and diverse volunteer past.  She has helped to coordinate fundraisers for the Lance Armstrong Foundation (Rock for the Roses), KEYE’s partners in the community relationship with Special Olympics, an employee art gallery and golf tournament benefitting the Austin Arts community.

Courtney has also volunteered for Meals on Wheels, the Sickle Cell Association of Austin, the Rafiki Foundation, the Greater African American Chamber of Commerce, the Christmas Bureau, Blue Santa, and The Houston Opera Guild.

In 2008, Courtney was chosen to be a spokesperson and a speaker voice for Austin’s Campaign for Philanthropy, I Live Here, I Give Here.

Courtney is an active member of the Junior League and sings for her church home, Riverbend Church in Austin, Texas.

In 2004 Courtney committed her life to a cause that took her from her greatest tragedy to her greatest triumph...

Courtney now works to create hope and resources for survivors of domestic violence through her charity JONAH and her new foundation, Survive2Thrive.

Wanting to give back to those who gave so richly to her and her children, she returned to SafePlace Austin and served on the Foundation Board of Trustees for five years.  SafePlace Austin was the shelter where she and her two children stayed after her last bout with domestic violence over a decade ago.  She speaks extensively as an advocate and ambassador for SafePlace to the community as a survivor living life after violence. www.safeplace.org.

Courtney also speaks regularly for The Texas Commission on Family Violence and lobbies for domestic violence legislation during the legislation session every two years. www.tcfv.org.

Compelled to give back, Courtney and her husband Paul started JONAH Ministry...an organization committed to creating lasting hope through the Arts and Music and quality of life improvement projects for survivors of abuse.  Her family collaborated with several generous community partners to build a computer lab in the Kelly White emergency shelter on the SafePlace Austin campus and she does donation drives for SafePlace Austin and Hope Alliance in Round Rock, Texas.

Her latest endeavor, Survive 2 Thrive Foundation will create a networking site to provide referrals to resources for new survivors of domestic violence, to elevate them from the survival stage of their lives to the new level of thriving in their new lives without violence. Look for it in 2012!
